Fermilab Electron Cooling Project: Field Measurements in the Cooling Section Solenoid
نویسندگان
چکیده
To provide the maximum possible cooling rate for the Recycler Electron Cooling (REC) [1], the cooling section has to be immersed into a high-quality longitudinal magnetic field. Namely, the solenoidal field of 50150 G should have an integral of the transverse component below 1 G⋅cm over the whole 20-m cooling section [2]. The transverse field components are measured by a dedicated compassbased sensor [3], which has been designed and manufactured at Budker INP, Novosibirsk. The paper describes results of the field measurements performed on the cooling section solenoid prototypes as well as the design and the calibration procedure of the sensor.

Fermilab Electron Cooling Project: Engineering Aspects of Cooling Section
The Fermilab Electron Cooling project involves interacting a 4.3 MeV, 0.5 A DC electron beam with 8.9 GeV/c antiprotons in the FNAL Recycler Ring. This interaction occurs through a 20-meter long cooling section consisting of 10 solenoid modules. This cooling process would lead to an increase in the Tevatron collider luminosity needed to support RunIIb parameters. There are several important eng...
متن کاملStatus of the Fermilab Electron Cooling Project
The first stage of the Fermilab Electron Cooling R&D program is now complete: technology necessary to generate hundreds of milliamps of electron beam current at MeV energies has been demonstrated. Conceptual design studies show that with an electron beam current of 200 mA and with a cooling section of 20 m electron cooling in the Fermilab Recycler ring can provide antiproton stacking rates suit...
متن کاملMuon Ionisation Cooling Experiment MICE
The Muon Ionisation Cooling Experiment (MICE) is currently under construction at the Rutherford Appleton Laboratory. MICE will prove the technology necessary for muon ionisation cooling. In ionisation cooling, particle beam emittance is reduced by passage through an energy absorbing medium and RF cavities. In its final configuration, MICE will consist of a 5.5 metre cell of an ionisation coolin...

A thin 3 m diameter x 5 m, 1.5 T superconducting solenoid for the Fermilab collider detector facility (CDF solenoid) was constructed. Cool-down and excitation tests of the solenoid were carried out . The design current is 5000 A and the stored magnetic energy is 30x 106 J. The solenoid utilizes the forced flow cooling method of two-phase helium and does not have a permanent inner bobbin. The ma...
متن کاملComparison of Heat Transfer Power of the Cooling Panel with Square Cross Section and Circular Cross Section in Electric Arc Furnaces Steelmaking by the use of Computational Fluid Dynamics
Steel pipes with circular cross-sections are usually used in cooling panels of electric arc furnaces. In the present study pipes with square cross-sections under equivalent conditions were used to obtain more information on the possibility of increasing the heat transfer and cooling efficiency. The results showed increased efficiency of the square pipe compared to the circular cross-section pip...
